Barebottle is a production craft brewery located in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, CA. Since June 2016, we have been committed to making innovative craft beer using the things that inspire us every day from the Bay Area. We work on a 3-vessel, 20 bbl brewhouse and currently have 16 x 40 bbl fermenters, 2 x 80 bbl fermenters, several pilot fermenters, and a small barrel program. We are also a licensed winery and make our own kombucha, soda, cider, and hop water.
To keep up with our growing production, we are currently seeking a Shift Brewer***. Job duties may change due to business needs. You must be flexible and willing to help in other areas as needed.
*** Shift Brewers rotate between hot-side (wort production) and cold-side (cellaring, packaging, racking, etc.).
Duties will include:
- Brewing: Wort production by adhering to a provided recipe and standard operating procedures
- Additionally, the ability to adapt and adjust brewing processes to meet brew specifications
- Cellaring: Transfers, vessel CIP/sani, yeast management, dry hopping, and DO and gravity readings
- Please be obsessed with low DO!
- Packaging: Assist as needed with packaging, including canning, bottling, and kegging.
- Troubleshooting: Ability to correct any beer related issues, with a focus on learning from mistakes.
- Maintenance: Assist with preventative maintenance of all brewery equipment and repairs as needed.
- Record keeping: Maintain detailed, accurate, and legible records of all work performed.
Candidate must have:
- Production brewing experience (ideally 2+ years) is required; this is not an entry level position.
- A passion for beer, brewing, and experimentation, including an active interest in the craft beer industry and a desire to constantly learn and explore new techniques and ingredients.
- Dedication to constantly improving and maintaining high beer quality
- A positive attitude and uplifting force for the production team and company
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented and self-motivated. Proactive and takes initiative.
- Consistently polite and courteous to customers
- Basic computer and math skills. Good written and verbal communication is essential.
- Mechanical experience (even outside of brewing) or laboratory experience are strong pluses
Position Description:
- Location: In person at the brewery’s production facility in San Francisco, CA.
- No relocation benefits or visa sponsorships provided.
- Reports to: Production Manager
- Job Type: Full time, 40 hours/week
- Pay Rate: Hourly, starting rate $25/hour
Physical Requirements:
- Standing: Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time (up to 8-12 hours per day)
- Strength: Ability to regularly lift supplies and equipment up to 55 lbs (i.e. bags of malt, hops, etc.)
- Noise: Ability to work in a production environment where noise level is usually moderate to loud
- Comfort: Ability to work in wet, tight, or cramped spaces
- Time of day: Ability to work an inconsistent schedule. This includes early morning, midday, evenings, and occasionally weekends. Shift rotate every 2 weeks.
- Production hours are typically between 5 am and 8 pm, Monday – Friday.
- Environment: Ability to work around hot fluids, pressurized vessels and transfer lines, variable temperature levels, carbon dioxide, moving machinery, slippery floors, and hazardous chemicals
